The inaugural meeting of the Board of Governors of the National Building Research Institute (NBRI) was held recently under the patronage of the Chairman. This marked the first official Board meeting following the transition of the National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) into the National Building Research Institute, subsequent to the enactment of the NBRI Act No. 25 of 2025 by the Parliament of Sri Lanka.
At the commencement of the meeting, the Chairman warmly welcomed the newly appointed Board Members and highlighted the significance of this milestone in the institutional history of NBRI. The Director General provided a comprehensive briefing on the functions and achievements of the former NBRO and outlined the strategic direction of the newly established NBRI. The Director (Administration) further explained the key provisions of the NBRI Act, including the immediate absorption of NBRO staff into the new institutional framework.
The meeting concluded with constructive discussions on the future vision, governance structure, and operational priorities of NBRI, reaffirming the Board’s commitment to strengthening national capacity in building research, disaster risk reduction, and resilient infrastructure development.
