ADPC–NBRO Technical Meeting on Post-Ditwah Resilient Rehabilitation Project Concept

January 23, 2026 | 10:07 AM

A technical discussion was held on 22 January 2026 at the National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) with the participation of representatives from the Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC) and NBRO to review and refine a proposed project concept on post-disaster recovery and resilience building following Cyclone Ditwah.

The discussion focused on the project concept titled “From Recovery to Resilience: Disaster-Resilient Rehabilitation of Landslide-Affected Areas and Communities in Post-Ditwah Sri Lanka.” Participants highlighted the severe landslide impacts caused by Cyclone Ditwah in November 2025 and emphasized the need to shift from short-term recovery toward risk-informed, climate-resilient rehabilitation and reconstruction.

Key areas discussed included landslide risk reduction and slope stabilization, resilient infrastructure rehabilitation, livelihood restoration, community-based preparedness, and institutional strengthening, with emphasis on advanced hazard assessments, climate-resilient design standards, and community participation.

The parties agreed to further develop and refine the project concept based on the outcomes of the discussion and to proceed with the next steps collaboratively.
